JEAN MITCHELL
Jean Annette Mitchell was born in Springdale, Pa., to parents Lillian (Logan)
and Ray B. Boals on Nov. 15, 1923. She died in White Salmon at the age of 84 on
March 8, 2008.
As an infant, Mrs. Mitchell moved from Pennsylvania to
Oregon. At the age of seven she moved to Nebraska, and at 14 had returned to
Oregon, living in Eugene. She attended University of Oregon for two years, and
then worked in the shipyards during World War II. In 1944, she married Harry S.
McKee. They lived in Wishram and she continued her education, receiving her
Teacher's Certificate at Central Washington University. Mr. McKee died in 1969
and she married John Mitchell in 1972. Mrs. Mitchell taught in Wishram for 16
years and retired in 1985. Mr. Mitchell died in 1995.
Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the Lyle Baptist Church.
She loved playing the piano, reading and keeping in contact with friends.
Survivors include her son Mike McKee, Dallesport;
stepsons Michael Mitchell, Beaverton, and John Mitchell, Jr. of Oregon;
stepdaughter Betty Brinks of Texas; 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Mitchell was buried privately at Lyle Balch
Cemetery in Lyle, under the direction of Gardner Funeral Home. A memorial
service was held March 1, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Evergreen Staples Funeral Chapel,
Vancouver. A celebration of life followed at the American Legion.
