JOHN A. WALMAN DIES FOLLOWING LONG ILLNESS
Funeral rites for John A. Walman, pioneer resident of
the Klickitat valley who passed away last Wednesday, June 9, were held at
the Phillips funeral home Saturday afternoon, June 12, at two o'clock. Rev.
Walter Smith, of the Goldendale Baptist church, was in charge and those serving
as pallbearers were M.J. Kilkelly, William Niva, John Lahti, Harvey Nimela,
John Kahkonen, and Hugh Cameron. Interment was in the Centerville Grange
cemetery.
Mr. Walman was born in Calumet, Michigan, September 29,
1873, the son of Gabriel and Johanna Walman. He came to the Klickitat valley
in 1878 with his parents and resided in Centerville area until about ten
years ago, when he moved to Goldendale.
He was active during the long span of years until he
was taken ill with a paralytic stroke 18 months ago, and had remained bedfast
until his death in Goldendale General hospital.
He was a member of the Finnish Lutheran church at Centerville
and was widely known in central Klickitat county.
He leaves the wife, Mrs. Ida Hendrickson Walman, to whom
he was married February 5, 1903, two children, Edward Walman and Martha Hartz,
both of Goldendale; three grandchildren; three children, Ida Nimela and Jetta
Niva, both of Centerville, and Fanny Costella, of Fairfield, Idaho; and three
brothers, Frank, of Pendleton, Robert, of Kent, and Albert, of North Richland.
