JESSE C. GARNER
Funeral services were held Saturday at Lyle Community
Church for Jesse G. Garner, resident of Lyle since 1883. Interment was in
the Balch cemetery at Lyle, the Rev. J.E. Besant officiating.
Pallbearers were Floyd Cooper, James Curl, Leonard Jerycke,
Ralph Baldwin, Kenneth Sorensen, and William McCleod.
Mr. Garner was born in 1872 in Illinois and came west
with his parents at the age of the 11 by covered wagon over the Oregon Trail.

FUNERAL RITES HELD FOR JESSE GARNER
Jesse C. Garner was born Feb. 19, 1870 in Milford, Ill.,
the son of William Garner and Nancy Dawson Garner. At the age of the 11 he
came west with his family by covered wagon over the Oregon Trail. The family
resided in Forest Grove, Ore. for a short time, and at the age of 13 he came
to Lyle. He was united in marriage to a Ida E. Dovey, who preceded him in
death in 1944. From this union four children were born: Melvin C. Garner
of Lyle; Maria M. Hendrickson of Carson; Marvin D. Garner of Los Angeles;
and Irvin Garner, who died in 1926.
Besides the four surviving children, Mr. Garner is survived
by his brother, Charlie Garner, and a sister, Rose Garner, both of Lyle.
In addition, there are six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
