JOHN C. KAIDERA
John C. Kaidera who died Thursday, March 9, was born
May 8, 1877 at Allouez, near Calumet, Mich. His father had come to Washington
that year to carve out a new family home, and in 1878 his mother and the
children came west to Centerville. They made up part of a growing settlement
of people of Finnish descent.
After his education in the schools near his home, he
took "business school" courses in Goldendale, and entered employment in a
Centerville Bank. Centerville was a thriving community then, but he stayed
20 years until the bank closed down. He then moved to Goldendale and continued
banking in the Pioneer State bank until several banks were consolidated there.
After that time he devoted his energy to management of his farm at Centerville.
He was married in 1900 to Ina Todd, daughter of another
Centerville pioneer family. Three sons were born to them: Vernon, Raymond
and Ted. All preceded their father in death. Mrs. Kaidera died in 1948.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Kay Lynn (Mrs. Allen)
Blue, of Seattle, and her daughters, Lori and Jeana; a grandson, John Kaidera,
also of Seattle.
Six nieces and a nephew also survived: Mrs. Ina Kayser,
Mrs. Paul Davenport and Mrs. Art Basse, all of Centerville; Mrs. Francis
Belaire, Moxee City and Mrs. Florence Webert, Seattle; also a niece and nephew
by marriage, Mrs. Golda Tobin, Centerville and Judd Bunnell, Pendleton.
Services were held at Knosher Funeral Home Monday, March
13, with Ray Hilman, minister of the Centerville Lutheran Church, in charge.
Interment was at the Centerville Cemetery, Goldendale. Pallbearers were William
Olson, Hugh Cameron, Otis Anderson, Otis Mattson, Wilbert Crocker and Peter
Anderson.
