JOHN C. MOLES DIES AS RESULT OF CAR-CRASH
John Moles, 80, of Glenwood died Friday, Jan. 17, of
injuries received when he was struck by a Job Corps vehicle about a mile
west of Glenwood on the Draper Spring road. Driver of the 1965 Dodge Carryall
was Freddy Briceno, 17, of Yakima, who has been in the Forest Simcoe Job
Corps a little over a year. Neither he nor his two passengers, David Hynson
and Alfred Washington, both 17, were injured.
The boys in the Carryall were enroute to the county dump
with a load of garbage. It was snowing and visibility was poor. When they
came upon the man walking in the road the driver swerved to the left to avoid
him and applied his brakes. The vehicle skidded to the right and struck the
elderly man. After freeing his foot from the bumper, one boy remained with
the victim, while the other two sent to the Ranger station for help and to
summon an ambulance and an officer from Goldendale.
Moles, whose left leg was broken, was carried about 150
feet to his house. He died about half an hour after leaving Glenwood in the
ambulance on the way to Goldendale.
Deputy Sheriff Elmer Sikes and State Trooper R.W. Bos
investigated the accident. No charges were filed. Damage to the vehicle was
minor.
