DEATH SUMMONS JIM C. STAACK
Lyle (special) Services were held at Gardner's funeral
home, White Salmon, at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9 for James C. (Jim) Staack,
65, who died Wednesday March 6, in a Portland, Oregon hospital.
Members of Mt. Adams Elks Lodge 1868 conducted the requiem
ceremony and served as pall barers: Amos Pearce, Orie Kreps, Kenneth Gross,
Don Van Deventer, Jim Hore and R.T. Anderson. Burial was in the Odd Fellow
cemetery.
Jim Staack was the son of Martha and Clause Staack, pioneers
of the Glenwood country. He was born at Panakanic on Sept. 22, 1891, attended
school at Laurel and spent most of his life in Klickitat county.
One of his great interests in early life was participating
in Oregon and Washington rodeo events. For over 25 years he operated heavy
equipment for the Newport Construction Co. of Portland.
On July 22, 1933 he was married to Letha Irene Van Deventer
Coffee. She died July 20, 1945.
Mr. Staack is survived by two brothers, Frank of The
Dalles, Oregon and Perda of Glenwood; one sister, Mrs. Murriel West of Lyle;
step-granddaughters, Tessie and Judy Thompson of Gibbon, Oregon; aunts, Miss
Nora Murray of White Salmon and Mrs. Joe (Della) Hylton of Colton, Oregon;
nieces and nephews.
