RITES HELD FOR JAMES E. WEST

     Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 11 at Gardners Funeral Chapel for James Elmer West, 83, Lyle. Rev. Roger Clevenger of Bethel Congregational church, White Salmon officiated.
     Burial was in Balch cemetery  near Lyle where Masonic Lodge No. 163 of White Salmon conducted graveside rituals. Mr. West was a member of the Goldendale Masonic lodge.
     Casket bearers were L.D. Ewing, Jerry Bertschi, Sidney Johnson, Clarence, Amos Larsen and Harold Lewis.
     James West was born April 30, 1876 at Cold Run, Ohio. He came to Klickitat County about 1900, and lived near Dot and Bickleton prior to moving to Lyle in 1920.
     On Jan. 30,1916 he was married at Vancouver to Murriel Staack, now postmaster of Lyle. She survives him.
     Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Zena Houdesheldt of Lyle and Mrs. Colleen Gagnon of Spokane; one son, Keith, Portland architect who lives at Lake Grove (Oswego); nine grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

RITES HELD AT W.S. FOR LYLE RESIDENT

     Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 8, 10:30 a.m. for James E. West, a resident of Lyle since 1920. He passed away at a hospital in The Dal1es following several months of illness.
     Mr. West, who came to Klickitat in 1900, had lived near Dot and Bickleton before living at Lyle.
     January 30, 1916 he was united in marriage to Muriel Staack in Vancouver.
     Surviving besides his widow are two daughters, Mrs. Zena Houdesheldt of Lyle, and Mrs. Colleen Gagnon of Spokane; one son, Keith West of Lake Grove, Ore.; nine grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
     Funeral services were at the Gardner funeral home with the Rev. Roger Clevenger officiating. Graveside services were conducted by the Masonic lodge at the Lyle cemetery. Mr. West was a member of the Goldendale Masonic lodge.
