JOHN GERBING

John Gerbing was born January 17th, 1875 at Champaign, Ill. He passed from this life in Glenwood February 26th, 1953 at the age of 78 years. Mr. Gerbing came west as a boy with his parents, locating near the Glenwood community at Panakanic, which now has been abandoned as a center. He took a homestead when he became of age. Of late he has helped in the grocery store of the Ladiges's, where he found pleasure in arranging things on the shelves and many hours were occupied for him in useful service. For some years he was janitor at the schools. He was considerate of the young folk and loved to play marbles with them in the spring.
At the death of his brother, George, who left three fatherless and motherless children, John, took the children unto himself and reared them.
