JAMES HOWARD MASTERS

     James Howard Masters 80, of Centerville, died Feb. 2, 2003 in California.
     He was born on April 6, 1922 in The Dalles to Thurston and Mayme Masters. He graduated from high school in 1940 and was attending Washington State College in Pullman when World War II broke out. He served in the US Navy as a fighter pilot and after the war returned to college.
     Howard and Marilyn Burch were married in Goldendale on September 20,1952. Howard was a wheat and cattle rancher all of his life.
     He was a member of the Gold-endale Masonic Lodge, the American Legion and the Centerville Grange.
     He enjoyed fine cars and his family.
     His wife, Marilyn, preceded him in death on June 2,1981.
     Survivors include one daughter, Susie Masters, of Centerville and several cousins.
     Graveside services were held on Feb. 8 at the Centerville Cemetery with Pastor Ken Akins officiating. Military honors were conducted by Louis Leidl Post 116. Erdman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
