"Local Happenings"
The funeral of William H. Stegeman, who died at his home in the Bickleton section last Thursday night, was held in Goldendale Monday, at the Catholic Church, followed by interment in the Goldendale Catholic cemetery. The services were held at ten o'clock. Mr. Stegeman was an old resident of Bickleton, and was well known throughout the Klickitat valley. His wife, who was a sister of Thomas Tobin and Mrs. M.M. Hoctor of No. Six, died several years ago. A good many persons from this vicinity attended the funeral services.

OBITUARY
William Stegeman was born October 20, 1864 at Kries Barken
Munster, Westfallen, Germany, and died at his home near Bickleton February
1, 1943. At the time of his death he was 58 years, 3 months and 12 days of
age.
He came to the United States April 10, 1872, and lived
in New Jersey for seven years, and then in the fall of 1879, came west to
Nebraska, living in the eastern part of that state, near Omaha, coming to
Washington in the spring of 1884.
He was married to Miss Sarah Tobin June 15, 1892, and
went to the home four miles east of Bickleton, where they resided for all
but three years of their married life, these three years of being spent at
San Diego, Calif.
Nine children were born to them. They are Theodore, Anna
(Mrs. Carol Everett), John, Alice, James, Fred, and three deceased children,
Henry, Willie and Mary.
Besides the six children, two sisters, Mrs. Henry Shaffer
of Ritzville, Wash., and Mrs. Chas. O. Hoker of the Bickleton, survive.
Mrs. Stegeman passed away four years ago the 13th of
last January.
The remains were brought to Goldendale Sunday, and funeral
services were conducted from the Catholic church Monday morning, Feb. 5th,
at 10 o'clock, followed by interment in the Goldendale Catholic cemetery.

WM. STEGMAN PASSES AWAY
The community was shocked Friday morning at the sudden
and unexpected death of Wm. Stegeman.
He was quite ill since the previous Saturday, but Thursday
he seemed to be better, but passed away at about nine o'clock that evening,
February 1, 1923.
Wm. Stegeman was born Oct. 20, 1864, at Kries Barken

this time Mr. Stegeman has kept up the home and kept his children together
and the three younger children have been receiving their education at Winlock,
Wn., in the Catholic school. Mr. Stegeman was a man among men, influential,
thrifty and prosperous not only as a rancher but as a businessman. He helped
to organize the Bank of Bickleton in the year 1903, and served as director
continuously, and was active in the affairs of every enterprise in the community,
he was also one of the original stockholders of the Farmers Mercantile Co.,
of Bickleton and the Farmers Union Warehouse Co. of Roosevelt, Washington
and contributed much towards the success of the enterprises in which he was
interested. The officers of the Bank of Bickleton paid this tribute to Mr.
Stegman: "We who served with him are proud of his achievements. Our grief
is at the loss of a sympathetic friend. We salute the memory of William
Stegeman."
The remains were taken to Goldendale Sunday and funeral
services were conducted from the Catholic church there Monday morning, February
5, at 10 o'clock and the remains laid beside those of his wife.
Besides the six children, two sisters, Mrs. Henry Shafer
of Ritzville, Wn., and Mrs. Charles O. Hooker, Bickleton.
