SERVICES HELD FOR FOUR THIS WEEK

     This week with a sad time for many families of this region, following an unusual number of deaths in the past ten days.
     In addition to funerals last week for Ralph Nickerson and Minnie Anderson, services were held this week for Fred Zumwalt, Julie Basse, Myrtle Enyeart and Ray Ernest Powers.
     Mr. Zumwalt, former mail carrier and resident of Bickleton who had made his home here in recent years, had been a patient at Simcoe Manor Nursing Home for some time. His funeral was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
     Mrs. Anderson, a lifelong resident of Centerville, also was a nursing home patient. The service was held Saturday.
     Ms. Basse, high school junior and daughter of the E. W. Basses, Centerville, was killed in an auto accident Saturday. Services were held in Goldendale Tuesday at 4 p.m.
     The death of Mrs. Enyeart, suffering from cancer, had been expected. The funeral was Wednesday at 2 p.m.
     Mr. Powers who resided at Rufus, was killed in an auto accident there Saturday. He was a nephew of Mrs. William Lanegan, who lived here and attended school at Pine Forest in his youth. The service was that Knosher's 4 p.m. Wednesday.

"Centerville News"

     Late Saturday night word was received that Julie Basse had been involved in an automobile accident in Gresham where she had been living and attending school this fall. She was fatally injured and her two girl friends were critically injured. The community extends its heartfelt sympathy to Julie's family.

CENTERVILLE GIRL DIES IN WRECK

     A 16-year-old Centerville, Wash., girl was killed Saturday night when the car in which she was riding slammed into a utility pole in Gresham.
     The girl, Oregon's sixth weekend traffic victim, was identified as Julie Basse. Two other girls in the car were seriously injured. Multnomah County Sheriff's deputies and rescue units worked for more than an hour to free the girls from the mangled car.
     Impact of the collision sheared the pole several inches above the ground. The mishap occurred shortly before midnight at SE 4th Avenue and Angeline Street. Cause was under investigation.

JULIE JO BASSE

     Julie Jo Basse was born August 6, 1949 in Goldendale, to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest (Murphy) W. Basse and passed away at Gresham, Oregon October 2 at the age of 16 years.
     She attended the first eight grades of school at Centerville School. She attended Goldendale High School for her ninth and tenth grades and was a junior at Gresham Union High School at the time of her death.
     She is survived by her parents, Marjorie and Ernest W. Basse of Centerville. She was a niece of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Miller of Moro, and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Basse of Centerville; and a cousin of Tonai Kirkilie, Mary Jo Lane, Gary Miller, Bill Basse, Ina Marie Moore, Donald Christopher, Betty Swearinger and Stewart Basse.
     Funeral services were held Tuesday at Knosher Funeral Home with Pastor Wm. I. Brooks, officiating Minister. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Guenther, David Dollarhide, Dick Harman, Larry Kennedy and Frank Trotter. Active pallbearers were Lyle Wilber, Mike Woods, Carl Williams, Mike Bruner, Craig Olson and Ron Dutton. Interment was in Centerville Cemetery.
