JOHN JACKSON KOONCE BROWN
John Jackson Koonce Brown was born at Rupert, Ida. on
March 10, 1909, the son of George Robert Koonce Brown and Etna Ethel Stephens
and passed away January 13, 1968 at the Klickitat Valley Hospital following
a short illness. John received his schooling in the Idaho school systems
and until the age of 18 worked on the family ranch at Ola, Ida. after which
he worked moved with the family to St. Ignaitus, Mont. For further work on
the family ranch at that location. At the age of 21 he was united in marriage
to Mary Oversby at Republic, Wash. At this time he was working in the logging
industry and also served as a State Deputy Game Warden. During World War
II he was employed in defense work in Seattle and later worked as a government
trapper.
The latter part of his life was spent in the Goldendale
area on the family ranch near Pleasant Valley.
John is survived by two sons, John of Hawthorne, California;
David of Seattle and one daughter, Mrs. Norma Page, also of Seattle, and
seven grandchildren. Also surviving are his mother and step-father, Etna
and Harry Emerson of Centerville; two sisters, Mrs. Susanne Swanson of Magalia,
Calif. and Mrs. Josephine West of Centerville. Also mourning his passing
are one niece, Ella Mae Brower of Boise, Ida. and four nephews, Peter Thompson,
Jon, David and Timothy West. John was preceded in death by his father in
1943 and 1 sister, Georgia Mae Rose in 1926.
Funeral services were held January 17, 1968 at Knosher
Funeral Home. Elders Francis Sanders and George Scofield of Goldendale and
Elder Sylvester Cooper of The Dalles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints were in charge of the services. Interment was the in the Spring Creek
Cemetery. Pallbearers were E.C. Sturgis, Howard Masters, George Sunderman,
George Scofield, Merle Winterstein and Doyle Keller.
