OLDEST MASON CALLED
Joseph Johnson Thomas died Saturday night at the home
of his son, Simpson H. Thomas, in this city.
Masonic rites were observed at the funeral services held
at two o'clock Monday afternoon in the Congregational church, also at the
cemetery.
Joseph Johnson Thomas was 92 years, 6 months and 5 days
of age. He had been a resident of White Salmon many years and at one time
was local photographer. He was the oldest Mason in White Salmon, having joined
the order in Grayville, Illinois, Jan. 10, 1881. Mr. Thomas was a man of
temperate habits and loved by all who knew him. He retained his faculties
to the time of his death, was very proud to tell that his great, great
grandmother Lee lived to be 113 years old. He was born in Geneva, Ohio, Nov.
4, 1838 and was married to Elipabeth Taber, July 2, 1862, who died many years
ago. Three children survive, Mrs. Ellen T. Richey, of Reno, Nevada; Mrs.
Caroline A. Barricklow, San Francisco, Calif. and Simpson H. Thomas of White
Salmon.
Gardner's Service had charge of the funeral.
