JUANITA ROLPH

     Juanita Lu (Ward) Rolph, born June 6, 1937, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister daughter, and friend, died on May 4, 2004.
     Mrs. Rolph was born in Hood River, Ore. to Frank and LuEllen Ward. She grew up in Glenwood, leaving to attend Whitworth College in 1954. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in education in 1958 and subsequently earned her fifth year.
     During the summers, 1954-58, she worked for the (old) State Division of Forestry as a fire lookout. She worked on Meadow Butte Look Out, Dymond Gap, Gray Back, Darlin Mountain, Lorena Butte, and Nestors Peak. It was on Meadow Butte in 1954 that she met her future husband, Leonard Rolph. She did quite a bit of relief lookout work in later years as well.
     The couple was married Sept. 27, 1958. They lived in Seattle for one year and then a year in Connecticut. They returned to Glenwood in 1960 -- her teaching and him working as a forester for St. Regis Paper Co. immediately after their ac-quisition of J. Neils Lumber Co. in Glenwood.
     The couple built a home a quarter mile from the home Mrs. Rolph grew up in, just north of Glenwood. They lived in the home they built from 1966 to present.
     Mrs. Rolph had many inter-ests and talents including writ-ing, reading, sewing, crafts and pinochle. She loved the Lord and was very active in the Pioneer Memorial Community Church in Glenwood. She will be remembered by her family and others as an incredible wife, mother and friend.
     She was preceded in death by her mother, LuEllen Ward, a third daughter, Laurie Ann in 1960, and a nephew, Timothy Ward.
     Mrs. Rolph is survived by her husband of 45 years, Leonard; daughters Lenda Goodpaster and Lenette Wilson, four grandchildren, her father Frank Ward, her brother Darold Ward, her sister Sue Atkins, and nieces and nephews.
     A memorial service for Mrs. Rolph was held on Friday, May 7, 2004, at 2:30 p.m. at the Pioneer Memorial Community Church, with Pastor Sandy Strait officiating.
     Memorials may be given to the Pioneer Memorial Community Church.

     Juanita Lu (Ward) Rolph, 66, of Glenwood, died May 4, 2004.
     She was born June 6, 1937 in Hood River to Frank and LuEllen Ward. Rolph grew up in Glenwood, leaving to attend Whitworth College in 1954. She graduated with a BA in education in 1958.
     During the summers from 1954-1958, Rolph worked for State Division of Forestry as a fire lookout. She worked on Meadow Butte Lookout, Dymond Gap, Grayback, Darlin Mountain, Lorena Butte, and Nestor's Peak. It was on Meadow Butte in 1954, that she met her future husband, Leonard Rolph. They were married Sept. 27, 1958. The couple lived in Seattle for one year while Rolph taught school in the Shoreline District and her husband finished his degree at the University of Washington. They then spent a year in Connecticut with Juanita substitute teaching while he husband attended graduate school.
     The Rolphs returned to Glenwood in 1960, where Juanita taught school, and Leonard worked as a forester for St. Regis Paper company, immediately after their acquisition of J. Neils Lumber Co., in Glenwood.
     Rolph enjoyed writing, reading, sewing, crafts and pinochle. She was an active of the Pioneer Memorial Community Church in Glenwood.
     Her mother, a daughter, Laurie Ann, and a nephew, Timothy Ward, preceded her in death.
     Survivors include her husband, Leonard; two daughters, Lenda Goodpaster and Lenette Wilson; four grandchildren; her father, Frank Ward, her brother, Darold Ward, a sister, Sue Atkins, and nieces and nephews.
     A memorial service was held May 7 at the Pioneer Memorial Community Church with Pastor Sandy Strait officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to the Pioneer Memorial Community Church.
