JOSEPH AERNI DIES AT 85 AT SKYLINE
Funeral services will be Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Gardner's
Funeral Chapel in White Salmon for Joseph Aerni Jr. of Carson, who died at
Skyline Hospital Sunday, Jan. 12. The Rev. William Collier of Trout Lake
will officiate. Burial, when weather permits, will be at Trout Lake.
Mr. Aerni was born Nov. 3, 1883, the fifth child of Joseph
and Lizette Aerni. When the family homesteaded near the Hollenbeck mill site
at Trout Lake when he was 18 months old he was brought on horseback from
White Salmon by Mrs. Charles Pearson. Following the death of his mother when
he was six, his father was married to Mrs. Mary Fitchner. Her six children
and the Aerni seven were joined by six more, making 19 children in all.
He was married to Grace Bell McCray at Trout Lake on
April 28, 1907. They moved to Carson in 1957 and celebrated their golden
wedding anniversary there that year. He was a member of the Trout Lake Grange
and the Stevenson SDA Church.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, George,
of Carson; four daughters, Ruth Lane of Redmond, Ore., Olive Davis of Trout
Lake, Pearl Maley of Hood River, and Edna Edwards of Yelm, Wa.; a sister,
Marie Kautz of Vancouver, Wa.; three step-sisters, Josephine Henke, Amelia
Pearson and Ellen Gurnee of Portland; three half-sisters, Lydia Wooten of
Salem, Ore., Martha Martin of Albany, Ore., and Edna Whitaker of Portland;
two half-brothers, Ernest Aerni of Jefferson, Ore. and Carl Aerni of Scio,
Ore.

RITES READ FOR JOSEPH AERNI
Funeral services were held Thursday for Joseph Aerni
Jr. of Carson, who died at Skyline Hospital Sunday, Jan. 12 at the age of
85.
Mr. Aerni was born in Bethany, Oregon, November 3, 1883,
the fifth child of Joseph and Lizette Aerni. At the age of 18 months he was
brought by horseback from White Salmon to Trout Lake by Mrs. Charles Pearson.
The Aerni family homesteaded near the Hollenbeck mill
site near Trout Lake. His mother passed away when he was six years of age
in 1889 and when his father remarried to Mrs. Mary Fitchner he had seven
children. Mrs Fitchner had six children and young Joseph grew up in a family
of 19.
Joseph Aerni Jr. was married to Grace Bell McCray at
Trout Lake on April 28, 1907.
The Aerni family lived back of the lake and then moved
to the area where their daughter Olive Davis lives.
The Aerni's celebrated their golden wedding anniversary
at Carson in the 1957. Mr. Aerni lived in Carson until he passed away.
Joseph was a member of the Grange at Trout Lake and the
Seventh Day Adventist Church of Stevenson.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Aerni had the following children:
Mrs. Ruth Lane of Redmond, Oregon; Edward Aerni (now
deceased); Mrs. Olive Davis of Trout Lake; Mrs. Pearl Maley of Hood River;
George E. Aerni of Carson; and Mrs. Edna Edwards of Yelm, Washington.
Joseph Aerni is survived by a sister, Mrs. Marie Kautz
of Vancouver; three step-sisters, Mrs. Josephine Henke, Mrs. Amelia Pearson,
and Ellen Gurnee, all of Portland.
Also the following half-sisters and half-brothers; Mrs.
Lydia Wooten of Salem, Oregon; Ernest Aerni of Jefferson, Oregon; Mrs. Martha
Martin of Albany; Carl Aerni of Scio, Oregon; and Mrs. Edna Whittaker of
Portland.
Funeral services were held at Gardner's Funeral Home
in White Salmon with the Rev. William Collier of Trout Lake Baptist Church
officiating. Interment will be in the Trout Lake.
