JOHN CHILDS
John Olmsted Childs, a White Salmon resident since 1908,
died Thursday in Portland at the age of 87.
Mr. Childs was born June 21, 1895, in Britton, S.D.,
to Mr. and Mrs. Frank O. Childs. He married Robert Beattie in White Salmon
June 14, 1942. He managed the Start Fruit Company in Bingen for 25 years
before retiring and devoting his time to his fruit ranch. He was a veteran
of World War I and a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Roberta Childs, White Salmon;
two children, Joanne Frost, Tacoma, and John Scott Childs, Fairbanks, Alaska;
one brother, F.E. "Ernest" Childs, Trout Lake; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Childs were held Monday at 11
a.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon, with Dr. R. Ted Holland
officiating. Interment was at the White Salmon Cemetery.
