DEATH OF JOHN KURE

John Kure, a prominent rancher and stockman of the vicinity of Lyle, died at his home on July 21, 1916.
He was born on the island of Barnholm, Denmark, February 6, 1861, being 55 years, 5 months and 15 days of age. When a young man he came to America, and following the immigration westward, he located at Lyle, Wash., on a homestead, upon which he has continuously resided, with the exception of two years - 1899 to 1901- when he built the Riverside Hotel at Lyle, and operated the same. On November 5th, 1890, he was married to Miss Henrietta Sorenson and to this union were born four children, one girl and three boys, Mrs. A.B. McKillip, of Goldendale; Henry B., Hildor H. and Arthur N., all of whom, with the widow, survive him. He also leaves to mourn his loss two brothers and one sister, Otto Kure Oregon City, Ore., and the other two in Denmark.
He was an active member of the Lutheran church of The Dalles, Oregon and also a member of the Board of Directors of the State Bank of Lyle. He was a loving father and will be missed by all who knew him.
The funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church at Hartland by Rev. Eak, of The Dalles, and the remains were followed to their last resting place in the Hartland cemetery by the largest procession of ever seen in that locality.

John Kure was born in Denmark, February 9th, 1861, and came to this country in 1882. He passed away at his home at Hartland July 21st, 1916, at the age of 55 years, 5 months, and 12 days. Mr. Kure had lived the most of the past 32 years at his place between Lyle and Hartland, and was known for miles around for his honesty and christian disposition; and if anyone was in sickness or trouble no one was more willing to lend a helping hand then John Kure. He took sick just a week before his death and all that loving hearts and willing hands could do was done to relieve him of his suffering and help him, but God had called him. Rev. Eckes of The Dalles Lutheran church, (the church of which Mr. Kure was a member), preached the funeral services. A large crowd of relatives and friends followed him to his last resting place. He was laid to rest amidst a profusion of beautiful flowers. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. H. Kure, and four children; Mrs. Robert McKillip, of Goldendale; and Henry, Hildor and Archie of Hartland.
