"Trout Lake News"
Born in Trout Lake, and a long time resident of the Valley, Tommy Anrig, age 93, died on Thursday, August 16. Tommy was well known in these parts as a superb gardener, one who generously shared his flowers and vegetables, and his annual double crop of raspberries! He and wife, Cristobel, were very active members of the grange in Trout Lake, and also participated actively in White Salmon's grange and Senior Center. Our condolences to Cristobel and the Anrig's three children, John W. of Trout Lake, two daughters, Harriet Bachelar and Rhoda English, both of whom live in Portland, and the Anrig's seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Services will be held at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon, on Saturday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m.

JOHN ANRIG
John Thomas Anrig, a lifelong Trout Lake resident, died
at his home on Aug. 16, 2001. He was 93 years old.
Mr. Anrig was born in Trout Lake on April 24, 1908, to
Arnold and Regina (Ochs) Anrig. He attended Ashland School in Trout Lake
through the eighth grade. In his early thirties, he worked as a commercial
fisherman. On Aug. 17, 1950, he married Christabel Bunn in Stevenson.
Although he did some work in sawmills and also in orchards,
pruning, picking and planing, Mr. Anrig spent much of his life farming. He
loved the farming life and his animals -- sheep, chicken and cattle -- and
was good with them. He liked fishing and hunting, and loved vegetable and
flower gardening. He also enjoyed traveling and camping in Alaska.
He was a dual member of the Trout Lake and White Salmon
granges and was also a member and officer of the Trout Lake Ditch Company.
Mr. Anrig is survived by his wife Christabel, Trout Lake;
daughters Harriet Batchelor and Rhoda Lee English, both of Portland; son
John Anrig, Trout Lake; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and three brothers.
A memorial service for Mr. Anrig will be held on Saturday,
Aug. 25, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Gardner Chapel in White Salmon.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Gorge, PO Box
36, Hood River, Ore.
Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
