JULIA VERLEY
Julia Verley, a former White Salmon area resident, died
Dec. 7, 1999, at the age of 92.
Mrs. Verley was born March 16, 1907, in Black Diamond,
to Michael Niemczyk (Nimsic), and Jadwiga (Edith) Lasek, both Polish
immigrants.
She was the sixth of 12 children. Her family moved from
Black Diamond to a small farm in Sunnyside, where Mrs. Verley attended school
through the 8th grade. She then worked in the apple industry packing apples
in Wiley City, west of Yakima. There, she met Earl Vetley, who had moved
from Weiser, Idaho, where he was born and raised.
The couple was married on July 6, 1925, in Pendleton,
Ore. They returned to Yakirna, where they lived and worked. Mr. Verley died
in 1938, leaving Mrs. Verley with The Logs Tavern at BZ Corners, a business
which she operated until she retired in 1969. In 1980, she moved to Chehalis
to be with and near her family. She was being cared for in Napavina, when
she died.
Mrs. Verley is survived by her son Gene Raymond Verley,
Chehalis; grandchildren Susan Kay Verley, Chehalis, Steven Ray Verley, Centralia,
and Shane Curtis Verley, Chehalis; great-grandchildren Zane Ray Verley, Adam
Eugene Verley and Sara Hinkey; one great, great-granddaughter Maysun Taylor;
brother Charles Burns, Ore.; and sister Margaret Link, Rancho Palos Verdes,
Calif. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters Marie Stobie, Frank
Nimsic, Frances Patton, Harry Nimsic, Ann Winn, Tom Nimsic, Clara Baker and
Philip Nimsic.
Funeral services for Mrs. Verley were held on Dec. 10,
1999, at 2 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon, followed by a short
graveside ceremony at the White Salmon Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Gardner Funeral Home.
