JOHN W. GOOD 1908-1988

     Memorial services for longtime McMinnville resident John W. Good, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in the First Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Randy Steele and Chuck Falconer.
     Family interment will be made in the Trout Lake Cemetery, Trout Lake, WA.
     Mr. Good died Sep. 24, 1988 in the Sheridan Care Center. He was 80.
     Born Feb. 5, 1908, in Skagway, Alaska, he was the son of Rev. George and Ursula Banks Good. He moved from Alaska to Trout Lake, WA. when he was 16 years old.
     He graduated from high school in Trout Lake. He received his degree from Linfield College in 1933 .
     Mr. Good moved to McMinnville in 1936. He worked for Ramsey's Variety Store, of which he later was co-owner.
     He and Margaret Ramsey were married March 30, 1937 in McMinnville.
     Mr. Good sold his partnership in the variety store in 1965. He and his wife moved to St. Helens, where they owned and operated a Coast-to-Coast store. He retired in 1979 and they returned to McMinnville in 1984.
     Mr. Good was active in Boy Scouts of America in the McMinnville area for 21 years. He received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award given to one affiliated with scouting.
     He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in McMinnville and St. Helens. He directed the church Choir in each city for several years.
     Mr. Good was active in civic affairs. He spearheaded the drive for McMinnville's first indoor swimming pool.
     He was past president of the Kiwanis Club and a past president of the Parks board and the Community Concert Association Board.
     Relatives said he loved photography, boats, and the outdoors. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Good of McMinnville; four daughters, Janet Anderson of McMinnville, Nancy Heringer of Salem, Kathleen McKnight of San Diego and Charolete Herman of Lacey, Wa.; a son, William Good of Hamilton, Mt.; three brothers, Kenneth Good of Yamhill, Fred Good of Camas, Wash., and Dr. Harold Good of Ryderwood, Wa. and two grandchildren.
     Arrangements are under the direction of Macy & Son Funeral Home Directors, McMinnville.
     Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association or the First Presbyterian Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Macy & Son, 135 N. Evans St., McMinnville, Or., 97128.
