KENNETH SCHMID

     Kenneth King Schmid, formerly of Trout Lake and recently of Hillsboro, Ore., died Sept. 16, 1998 in Beaverton, Ore., at the age of 85.
     Mr. Schmid was born to Alice Alta (King) and John Schmid on June 13, 1913, in Trout Lake and attended school in Trout Lake went on to continue his education at Washington State University in the 1930s.
     He built a power plant that helped sustain the family farm in Trout Lake. He also built a cold storage that the community of Trout Lake used. He raised foxes for fur.
     Mr. Schmid entered the Navy in 1942, and returned to Trout Lake in 1945. He married Marian Carl on Jan. 1, 1949. He logged for Hollenbeck Lumber Co, and SDS Lumber Co.
     He retired in the mid 1970s, but was active in the Glacier Spring Water Company, involved in the grange and was on the cemetery committee. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was known for his daffodils.
     Mr. Schmid is survived by his wife, Marian, Hillsboro, Ore.; son, Kelvin K. Schmid, Trout Lake; daughter and son-in-law Rosalie and George Rich of Hillsboro, Ore.; brothers, Loren Schmid, White Salmon, Forrest Schmid, Renton, Leon Schmid, Trout Lake, and Stanley Schmid, Gresham, Ore.; sisters Helen Dolezal, Hillsboro, Ore., Dorothy Potter, Canon City, Colo., and Vesta Libby, Portland; and three grandsons Geoffrey, Bryon and Allen Rich. He was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Schmid.
     Funeral services for Mr. Schmid were held Sept. 23, 1998, at 1 p.m. at the Trout Lake Presbyterian Church. Interment will be at the Trout Lake Cemetery.
     Memorials in Mr. Schmid's name may be given to the Trout Lake Fire Hall Fund in care of Gardner Funeral Home, who was in charge of arrangements.

KENNETH SCHMID, EX-WASHINGTONIAN

     Kenneth King Schmid, 85, Hillsboro, died Sept. 16, 1998 in Beaverton.
     He was a former long-time resident of Trout Lake, Wash.
     Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Trout Lake Presbyterian Church in Trout Lake.
     Interment will follow in Trout Lake Cemetery.
     Mr. Schmid was born June 6, 1913, in Trout Lake, a son of John and Alice Alta King Schmid. He attended school in Trout Lake and attended Washington State University in the 1930s.

     He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945.
     On Jan. 1, 1949, he married Marian Carl.
     Mr. Schmid was a logger for Hollenbeck Lumber Company and SDS Lumber Company before retiring in the mid-1970s.
      He was active in the Glacier Spring Water Company, was involved in the Grange, and was a member of the cemetery committee in Trout Lake.
     Mr. Schmid enjoyed hunting and fishing and was known for his daffodils.
     Survivors include his wife, Marian Schmid, Hillsboro; a son, Kelvin K. Schmid, Trout Lake, Wash.; a daughter and son-in-law Rosalie and George Rich, Hillsboro; three grandsons, Geoffrey Rich, Byron Rich and Allen Rich.
     Also surviving are four brothers, Loren Schmid, White Salmon, Wash., Forrest Schmid, Renton,  Wash., Leon Schmid, Trout Lake, Wash., and Stanley Schmid, Graham, Wash.; and three sisters Helen Dolezal, Hillsboro, Dorothy Potter, Canon City, Colo., and Vesta Libby, Portland.
     Memorial contributions are suggested to the Trout Lake Fire Hall Fund in care of Gardner Funeral Home, P.O. Box 390, White Salmon, WA. 98672.
     Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
