KRETA L. LAWERY
Kreta L. Lawery, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Lehto,
was born in Finland, June 2, 1859 and passed away Wednesday, March 1 at about
91 years of age.
She came to America in 1888 to join her mother and brothers
who had preceded her and were living at Centerville.
About one year later she was married to Jacob Lawery
of Centerville. Mr. and Mrs. Lawery made their home on a farm west of
Centerville. Mr. Lawery passed away in 1936. Mrs. Lawery had lived in the
vicinity of Centerville since the time of her arrival in America. At the
time of her death she was one of the oldest pioneers in Klickitat County.
Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Lawery, one son
dying in infancy and a daughter passed away at the age of six years.
She is survived by four children, Mrs. William Ahola
of Centerville; Mrs. Wilbert Crocker, Centerville, Emil O. Lawery, Centerville
and William Lawery of Oakland, Calif.; also five grandchildren and six great
grandchildren.
All of her brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
Many have spoken of her as a good mother and a kind and helpful neighbor.
She was a member of the Lutheran church.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 3, at 3 p.m.
from the Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Walter G. Smith officiating.
Interment was in the Centerville Grange cemetery.
