LLOYD CHARLES PORTNER
Lloyd Charles "Buzz" Portner of White Salmon died Wednesday,
April 13, in Hood River; he was 75.
Mr. Portner was born August 26, 1918 in Cherokee, Iowa
to Louise M. (Pidgeon) and Charles A. Portner.
He grew up in South Dakota and moved to Washington as
a young man. During WWII Mr. Portner served in the Merchant Marines.
On October 12, 1940, he married Maxine Mosher; together
the couple had five children: Mr. Portner worked for the Hollenbeck Sawmill
in Trout Lake for many years and later worked for SDS Lumber until his
retirement.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, mushroom &
cone picking, loved being outdoors and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was also an avid sports fan.
He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine; his son
Terry; three brothers Joe, Pete and Charles; and his sister Violet
Shum.
He is survived by his sons Dale and Dennis both of White
Salmon; his daughters Cindy Yarnell of Husum and Renee Holtmann of Trout
Lake; and his sisters Lorraine Robinson of Klickitat, Betsy Kessinger of
Klickitat, Rosie Gates of Grants Pass, Adele Mansfield of White Salmon, Lily
Bringer of Rapid City and Fonda Engles of Hood River. He had 9
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 16, 1994 at
the Gardner Funeral Home. The Rev. Joel Hibbs officiated the ceremony. The
family suggests remembrances in Mr. Portner's name be given to the Skyline
Foundation c/a Skyline Hospital.
The Gardner Funeral Home was in charge of all the
arrangements.
