SERVICES HELD FEBRUARY 6TH FOR LUCY CRESS

     Lucy Dorothy Kessler was born December 13th, 1876 to William Henry and Mary Evaline Kessler in a sod house with a cane roof on a 160 acre homestead near Lebanon, Smith County, Kansas. There were 6 girls and one boy on the family. Later the family moved to Minneapolis, Kansas where she lived as a girl.
     After completing her schooling she came west and taught school for two years, one year at Centerville, Washington. She then went back to Denver, Colorado where she took up nursing. She nursed in Denver and Lawrence, Kansas, later coming to Portland, Oregon to nurse.
     On June 1, 1907, she married John A. Cress of Centerville, Washington. To this union was born one daughter. Most of her married life she lived in Clark County, Washington in Vancouver and the La Center-View area. They moved to Husum in 1951. Her husband, John, passed away June 20th, 1961.
     Mrs. Cress was a member of the First Congregational Church of Portland, Oregon. Surviving are her daughter, Lourina Trout of Husum; one step-daughter, Goldia Toubin of Centerville, Washington; one step-son, Douglas A. Cress of Portland, Oregon; one sister, Mary Bradley of Portland. There are also three grandson, Stephen, Michael and Stanley Trout and four great grandchildren. She passed away in white Salmon, Washington on February 2nd at the age of 96 years.
     Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 6th, 1 p.m. at Gardner's Funeral Home in White Salmon with Rev. Homer Coulson of Goldendale officiating. Interment was at White Salmon.

     Services for a former long-time resident of Clark County, Lucy D. Cress, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Gardner's Funeral Home in White Salmon. Burial will be in the Mt. Adams Cemetery in Glenwood, Wash.
     A resident of White Salmon since 1951, Mrs. Cress was born Dec. 13, 1876, in Lebanon, Kan. She is survived by a step-son, Douglas A. Cress of Portland; one daughter, Mrs. Lourina Trout of Husum, Wash.; one step-daughter, Golda Tobin of Centerville, Wash.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Bradley of Portland.

LUCY CRESS

     Lucy Dorothy Cress, a resident of White Salmon since 1951, passed away at Skyline Hospital in White Salmon February 2, 1973. She was a retired teacher and nurse.
     Born Lucy Kessler December 13, 1876 in a sod house near Lebanon, Ka., she later moved to Minneapolis, then West after completing school. She taught school two years, one year at Centerville, then went to Denver where she took up nurse's training, nursing at Denver and Lawrence, Ka. before coming to Portland to nurse.
     On June 1, 1907 she married John A. Cress of Centerville. One daughter was born to this union. She spent most of her married life in Clark County, in the Vancouver and LaCenter area, moving to Husum in 1951 and had been a resident of the White Salmon area since.
     Her husband died in 1961. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Portland.
     Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Lourina) Trout of Husum; one step-daughter, Goldia Tobin of Centerville, one stepson, Douglas A. Cress of Portland; one sister, Mary Bradley of Portland; three grandsons and four great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services were held February 6 at 1 p.m. at Gardner Funeral home in White Salmon, the Reverend Mr. Homer Coulson officiating. Interment was in Mt. Adams Cemetery, Glenwood.
