LAWRENCE WOODRUFF
Lawrence David Woodruff Sr., a longtime county resident,
died at his home in Wahkiacus on Sept. 29, 1999, at the age of 75.
Mr. Woodruff was born Dec. 7, 1923, in Tremonton, Utah,
to Vernon J. and Millie (Kay) Woodruff. He went to school in Utah and then
served in the Army during World War II from 1943-1946. He moved to Wahkiacus
in 1947, buying a sawmill with two brothers. In October 1947, he married
Violet Browning in White Salmon.
Mr. Woodruff was a family man who was very devout in
his Seventh-day Adventist faith. He loved electronics and radios and could
fix anything. He worked very hard and loved his children. Mr. Woodruff was
a man of many talents, a Jack-of-all-trades and master of them all. He and
his wife were approaching their 52nd wedding anniversary in October.
Mr. Woodruff is survived by his wife, Violet; daughters
Patty Heinrich, Okeene, Okla., Janice Cox, Roxie Cowart and Nancy Cox, all
of The Dalles, Ore., Josie Selaya, Orland, Calif., Melody Minette, Wahkiacus,
Robin Sherman, Goldendale, Marta Thomas, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Sandra
Baird, Washougal; sons David Woodruff Jr. and Lynn Woodruff, both of Wahkiacus;
11 brothers and sisters, 28 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Woodruff were held Sunday, Oct.
3, 1999, at 2 p.m. at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Wahkiacus, with
Elders Rolf Linforg and Floyd Matula officiating.

Arrangements were handled by Gardner Funeral Home in
White Salmon.
