"Centerville"
The body of Grandpa Clanton, who died in Portland recently, was shipped here Wednesday, and after a short sermon, was laid to rest in the cemetery south of town.

OLD RESIDENT OF CENTERVILLE PASSES AWAY
Levi Clanton died, Monday, August 13th, 1917, at his
residence in Portland, Oregon, and was buried in Centerville, August 15th.
He was born in North Carolina, November 3rd, 1833, and
was married April 1st, 1851.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Frances P. Clanton and
the following children: Emma T. Clanton, of Portland, Ore.; R.E. Clanton,
Bonneville, Ore.; Dr. Lee Clanton, Rockford, Wash.; Mrs. Lenora Longmire,
The Dalles, Ore.; and Mrs. Nella Dempsey, Seattle, Wash.; also 22 grandchildren
and 10 great grandchildren.
He came to Centerville, Wash. in the early eighties,
where he resided until about eight years ago.
At his request, he was taken back to his old home and
buried beside his daughter, Mrs. Lina Wagner, and among his old friends and
neighbors.
During his sojourn in Centerville, he conducted a blacksmith
shop, and the iron gate at the entrance to the Centerville Cemetery was among
the last works that he did, when in that business, and was presented by him
to the Cemetery.

CLANTON -- At the residence, 314 West John street, St. John's, Or., August 14, Levi Clanton, aged 84 years, beloved husband of Mrs. F.P. Clanton; father of Miss Emma T. Clanton, of St. Johns; R.E. Clanton of Bonneville; Mrs. Lenora Longmire, of The Dalles; Mrs. Nellie Dempsey, of Seattle; Dr. Lee Clanton of Rockford, Wash.; grandfather of George Klaus, of St. Johns. Remains will be forwarded this (Wednesday) morning by Miller & Tracey to Centerville, Wash., where interment will take place.

"Heard On The Streets"
Levi Clanton, a pioneer of the Centerville section, died at his home in St. John's, Oregon the past Tuesday, at the age of 84 years. He is survived by an aged widow, two sons and three daughters. Mr. Clanton was well known to all the old-timers of the Valley, having conducted a blacksmith's shop at Centerville for many years, which he established in an early day, when Centerville first began its existence. Some years ago he disposed of the same, and has since been living at Washougal and later at St. John's. The body was shipped to Centerville yesterday afternoon, and burial made in the Centerville Cemetery.
