RITES READ FOR LEROY HYLTON
Funeral services were held in White Salmon Wednesday
for Leroy Hylton, formerly of the Upper Washougal area, who died in a Vancouver
hospital Sunday, March 2, at the age of 80.
Mr. Hylton, familiarly known as "Roy", had been making
his home in Washougal after retiring 20 years ago.
He was born October 13, 1899, in The Dalles, Oregon,
the son of U.F. and Lillian Hylton. He grew up in that area and was a farmer
all his life.
Mr. Hylton farmed for many years in the Appleton area
of Klickitat County. He and Esther Leaton were married in Stevenson November
12, 1930, and would have observed their Golden Anniversary this
year.
After farming in Klickitat County for many years they
purchased property in Skamania County, moving upon retirement to Washougal.
Mr. Hylton was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Grange and the Methodist Church
of Washougal.
Besides his wife, Esther, he is survived by a son, Donald
Hylton of Springfield, Oregon, and a sister, Helen Miller, of San Carlos,
California. There are four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral rites were held at the White Salmon
Cemetery with the Rev. Floyd Green officiating. Gardner's Funeral Home was
in charge of arrangements.
