LEORA BARNEDT
Leona Genevieve Barnedt, a former White Salmon resident,
died on Feb. 4, 2000, in Hermiston, Ore., at the age of 87.
Mrs. Barnedt was born Jan. 4, 1913, in Marysville, Mo.,
to Joseph A. and Grace K. (Barton) McKee. Her family homesteaded in Montana
and when she was 12 her mother died. Her father then moved the family to
Stevenson, where Mrs. Barnedt attended Stevenson High School. She married
Datus Barnedt in 1930, in Dayton.
At the age of 40, she decided to go back to school, receiving
both her high school diploma and a nursing certificate. She worked at Vancouver
Memorial Hospital and Skyline Hospital. She was a very busy woman who was
active in the Methodist Church and Rebekah Lodge. She also sang in a Sweet
Adelines group in Vancouver.
Mrs. Barnedt is survived by five sons William Barnedt,
Eagle, Idaho, Marvin Barnedt, Anaconda, Mont., John Barnedt, Spokane, James
Barnedt, White Salmon, and Rohert Barnedt, Fairbanks, Alaska; daughter Leora
Rumsay, Arlington, Ore.; brothers David McKee, Allyn, Thomas McKee, Spokane,
and James McKee, Oregon City, Ore.; sisters Lulu Winters, Vancouver, and
Frances Kindall, Tacoma; 22 grandchildren and 33 great-grand-children. She
was preceded in death by her husband Datus, daughter Evelyn L. Mann, and
brothers Vincent, Dale and Ernest.
Funeral services for Mrs. Barnedt were held at 10 a.m.
on Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at the United Methodist Church in White Salmon,
with Pastor David Duncombe officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Arrangements were handled by Gardner Funeral Home of
White Salmon.
