LENA H. MILLER
Lena Hollingsworth Miller was born in Caney, Kan., April
6, 1894 and died July 19, 1966 at the Simcoe Manor nursing home in Goldendale
after an illness of four months. She was the third child of William F. and
Harriet Hollingsworth.
At the age of two, Lena, with her parents moved to California
where she spent her early girlhood years. The family came to Bothell, Wash.,
when she was 13. In a few years, she went to Wenatchee where she lived for
several years, engaged for a time in the restaurant business with a sister.
While there she became a member of the Church of Christ.
In 1924 she was married to John A. Miller of Goldendale.
To their marriage were born a daughter, Jean, Mrs. James Hannifan, The Dalles,
and the twin sons, Jerome (Jerry) and his brother who died when a few days
old.
Most of her married life was spent in Centerville or
on their farm home near Centerville. Her husband preceded her in death in
1952. Since then she has resided in Goldendale. For many years she was a
faithful and efficient employee in the office of the county auditor until
her retirement about three years ago.
She was a true friend to her many friends, a selfless
neighbor, and a friend in need to those many who recall her thoughtful acts.
She was a member of the Centerville Church of Christ,
Centerville Grange, Neighbors of Woodcraft, Leah Rebecca Lodge, and the Order
of Eastern Star.
Besides her own daughter and son, she is survived by
five stepchildren to whom through the years, she was a devoted second mother.
They are: Ms. Zelma (Mrs. Joe Taylor) Mesa, Ariz.; Henry Miller, and Mary
(Mrs. Quentin Jaekel) both of Centerville: Reg Miller of Seattle; and Helen
(Mrs. Leonard Card) of The Dalles. There are 19 grandchildren and nine great
grandchildren.
Also surviving are four sisters: Mary (Mrs. Frank Garner)
Centerville: Nell (Mrs. Bend Thorson) and Harriet (Mrs. R. A. Peterson) both
of Chelan; Jesse (Mrs. C. H. Schindler), Seattle: one brother, Wesley
Hollingsworth of Pasadena, Calif., and numerous nieces and nephews.
