MRS. G. KNUTSON LAID TO REST
Mrs. Lucile Chapman Knutson, passed away at the home
of her sister, Mrs. Kate Lane on July 3 after a long illness.
Lucile Chapman Knutson was born on Sept. 3, 1865 at Collins
Woodyard, now called Home Valley, in Skamania County.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, Gilbert Knutson
and three sons, Kelsey Knutson, of Portland; Lloyd Knutson, Hood River; Gilbert
Knutson Jr., of this city; a brother, C. Chapman of Bingen, and one sister,
Mrs. Kate Lane also of White Salmon.
She came to this country in 1872 with her parents. At
that time there wasn't any school here, and she was sent to The Dalles for
schooling and finished in Connecticut at Holyoke Academy. She returned to
Camas Prairie and taught school there for two years. Later she worked at
Old's and King in Portland for 10 years as cutter. She married Gilbert Knutson
in 1889 and since that time had made her home in White Salmon.
She also leaves four grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sunday at 1 o'clock, July 6th at the
Gardner's Chapel with Rev. Gilbert will officiating. Interment followed in
