"Lyle"

LYLE -- Lola James, 86, Lyle pioneer and widow of the late Homer James, who preceded her in death in 1967, passed away on November 10, 1970, in La Mesa, Cal., where she had gone to spend the winter months with her son, Samuel James and family. Her unexpected death stunned Lyle people, who received the report November 11; like her husband, she was one of our more prominent citizens. Mr. and Mrs. James came west from Indiana in the early decades of Lyle's history, and left an indelible mark on this area. Homer bought into the firm of Franzen & Norris, early-day merchants here, which mercantile firm became known later as The Lyle Mercantile, which just last week became the Lyle Sentry Supermarket in a newly built structure.
Lola was a member of The Lyle United Methodist Church and its Women's Society of Christian Service, was a charter member of the Lyle Women's Club and of Columbia Grange No. 87. Known for her kindly works and Christian character she will be sadly missed by a host of friends who owe her and Homer a debt of gratitude, as does all of Lyle, and Klickitat county, for such fine, dependable citizens.
Funeral services were held in Gardner's Chapel at White Salmon at 1 p.m. November 14, 1970, for Lola James. Survivors include her only son, Samuel James, and two grandsons, Bobby and Charles, all of La Mesa, Cal. Burial was in the Lyle-Balch cemetery, beside her husband.
