LOTUS EWING
Lotus D. Ewing, a resident of Lyle for 45 years, died
Sunday morning in White Salmon at the age of 73.
Mr. Ewing was born April 21, 1910, in St. Francis, Kan.,
to Arthur and Alma Ewing. He graduated from St. Francis High School, where
he met Frances Harvey. They were married in 1930.
The Ewings came to Lyle in 1938 where he worked in logging
and carpentry. After building for a number of years, he developed a sawmill
and logging operation near Appleton. Some 10 years later he was appointed
postmaster at Lyle, from which he retired in 1975.
Mr. Ewing was an active member of the Columbia Grange
and a past master of both Columbia and West Klickitat county Pomona Granges.
From 1970-78 he was a deputy master of the Washington State Grange. He was
also a member of the Masonic Lodge of White Salmon and a member of the Lyle
Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Frances, Lyle; three daughters,
Joyce Sauls, Vancouver, Janice Schutte, Seattle, and Judy Clarke, West Linn,
Ore.; two sons, Kent, Sterling, Colo., and Keith, Newport Beach, Calif.;
13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lyle, St. Francis,
Kan., and Kermit, Arlington; and two sisters, Audrey Shellenger, Salina,
Kan., and Signe Passell, St. Francis, Kan. He was preceded in death by a
baby daughter, Geraldine, and one brother, Arvid.
Funeral services for Mr. Ewing will be held today (Thursday)
at 2 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon, with Rev. Carol Davies
officiating. Interment will be in the Lyle Cemetery.

He and his wife Frances, who were married in 1930, came

at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon, the Rev. Carol Davies officiating.
Interment will be in the Lyle Cemetery.
