DIES FROM THE EFFECT OF BURNS

Mrs. Sarah L. Ellis, wife of Augustus Ellis, who was severely burned when their home in Luna Gulch was destroyed by fire on the morning of July 11, died in this city at the home of Mrs. Laura S. Cain, the past Thursday from the effects of the burns received. One half of her body was burned, and although prompt medical assistance was rendered, nothing could be done for her except to relieve her suffering. The remains were interred in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery the past Saturday.
The fire occurred about 4 o'clock in the morning. Mrs. Ellis was up a little before this to ascertain the time, and it is presumed she dropped a lighted match. Soon after this, Mr. Ellis smelled something burning, and on opening the bedroom door to investigate, flames rushed in, and their only escape was through the window. Mrs. Ellis, who was a large woman, was unable to get out of the window readily, and received her burns before Mr. Ellis could get her out. He was burned about the hands in making the rescue. Friends of Mr. Ellis secured financial aid in the city for him last week.
