LOUISE VAN PELT SPINO

     Funeral services were held Monday for a Louise Van Pelt Spino at her home near Wahkiacus with burial in the Hartland cemetery.
     She was born December 18, 1897 at a Hartland, Wash. to William Van Pelt and Nellie Tewanish Van Pelt and passed away at Goldendale, Wash. September 16, 1971 at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 28 days.
     She was married to Joseph Sconawah and to this union were born 5 children, three of which survive: Ernest Sconowah of Warm Springs, Or., Eddie Sconowah Wapato, Wash. and Eva Kahclamat of Dallesport, Wash. Mr. Sconowah preceded her in death.
     She later married Roy E. James Spino who passed away in 1954. To this union were born 8 children with seven surviving: Stanley and Chester Spino of Wahkiacus, Doreen Mahaffey of Klickitat, William Spino of Wahkiacus, Levi Spino Coos Bay, Or., Samuel Spino of Bingen and Frankin Spino of Wahkiacus.
     She is also survived by a sister, Isabelle Palmer of Warm Springs, Or., many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
     Louise lived all her life in this area and there is a story of her in a book called "So this is Klickitat".
     She was well known and respected by all who knew her both of her own race as well as her "paleface" friends as she referred to them.
     She loved children and was known as grandma to all.
