MRS. GEORGE BUNNELL KILLED
On last Monday forenoon in company with her young daughter,
Mrs. Bunnell left her home at Centerville to go to her farm due south of
Centerville. She drove a horse to a light buggy, without any brake on the
same.
Going down the hill on the other side of the mountain
the breeching on the horse slipped, scaring the horse, which began to run
and kick, and finally threw the woman and child out.
The child was not hurt, and she got up and went to her
mother, who was lying on her stomach. She turned her mother over who gave
a gasp or two, but could not talk. The child ran several hundred yards to
the Gillette & Coffield farm for help. Mrs. Baldwin ran to the woman,
but found her dead.
The right side of her head was smashed in letting the
brain ooze, and her right shoulder was badly mangled and bruised.
Coroner Merle Chapman was summoned, who left for the
scene of the accident immediately but did not hold an inquest, as he deemed
it unnecessary.
The body was brought to Goldendale and prepared for burial,
internment taking place yesterday in the Centerville cemetery.
Mrs. Bunnell was a widow, her husband, George Bunnell,
dying about a year ago. She was about 45 years of age, and leaves a daughter
nine years old. She has resided in Klickitat for several years, and was held
in high esteem by all who knew her.

WOMAN KILLED
Dashed Against Rocks Head First
Goldendale, Washington, July 17 - Mrs. George Bunnell
of Centerville was killed in a runaway on the old grade from the Klickitat
valley down the Dalles mountain to the Bunnell ranch to the Columbia river
near Fallbridge. Her only child, a 9 year old daughter, was in the rig with
her but escaped unhurt. The child says that something broke about the harness
just after they had started down the grade, and the horses started to kick
and run. When almost to a point of safety the buggy struck a rock and Mrs.
Bunnell was thrown out on her head, killing her instantly.
The little girl went to a farm house a quarter of a mile
away for help. They found the woman with her brains dashed about on the rocks.
Mrs. Bunnell was the widow of a Klickitat stockman who died two years ago
and she has since been looked after the ranch and stock interest belonging
to the estate.
