MRS. O.P. KREPS, OF LAUREL, PASSES AWAY
Pioneer Resident Lived In Camas Prairie Since Eight Years Old

     Margaret A. Kreps, age 75, beloved pioneer woman of Laurel, Washington, died May 31, 1940, at the Klickitat General hospital, in this city.
     Margaret A. Kreps was born in Portland, Oregon on March 29, 1865. She is survived by her husband, Oliver P. Kreps, of Laurel, two sons, Russell, of Husum, Wash., Oliver, of Laurel; two daughters, Mrs. Amy Patton, of Laurel and Jane, of Laurel; one sister, Mrs. D.W. Pierce, of Turlock, Calif., one brother, Peter Conboy, of Glenwood, and one cousin, Mrs. Mary Jane Meagher, and five grandchildren. She had been a life long member of the Catholic church, Alter Society of White Salmon. She was a charter member of the Pioneer Association of Camas Prairie, being secretary-treasurer for many years. For the past 30 years she served as clerk of the Laurel school. Interment was in the Mt. Adams cemetery at Glenwood, Washington. Gardner's Funeral service, of White Salmon had charge of arrangements. Service was read by Father Lyons and Father Edwards.
     Margaret A. Kreps came to Klickitat county with her parents when eight years of age, going in from Warner's landing in Bingen on horseback to the new homestead on the banks of Conboy lake where she resided until she married Oliver P. Kreps on Oct. 27, 1887. They then moved to his homestead at the west end of Camas Prairie where they had resided continuously for the past 52 years, raising their family of four children.

     Margaret A. Kreps, pioneer of Laurel, died at the Klickitat General hospital in White Salmon last Friday, May 31, at the age of 75 years.
     Mrs. Kreps was born in Portland March 29, 1865. She had been a life-long member of the Catholic church Alter Society of White Salmon and was a charter member of the Camas Prairie Pioneer Association. She had been a resident of Laurel for 52 years and served for 30 years as clerk of the Laurel school.
     Interment was in the Mt. Adams cemetery at Glenwood with Gardner's Funeral Home officiating.
     Surviving are her husband, Oliver P. Kreps of Laurel; two sons, Russell of Husum and Oliver of Laurel; two daughters, Mrs. Amy Patton and Jane of Laurel; one sister, Mrs. D.W. Pierce of Turlock, Calif.; one brother, Peter Conboy of Glenwood, and a cousin, Mrs. Mary Jane Meagher.

     Mrs. Mollie Cole, Tacoma, and her sister, Mrs. Oapl Johnson, Scappoose, Ore., were here last Monday to attend the funeral of their sister-in-law, Mrs. O.P. Kreps. Nephews of Mrs. Kreps, also attending the services were Edwin Pierce and Mr. Meagher, both from Portland, Mrs. D.W. Pierce, of Turlock, Cal., was prevented by ill health from attending. White Salmon's post office flag was flown at half mast last Monday forenoon in tribute to Mrs. Kreps.

MRS. O.P. KREPS SR. PASSES AT GLENWOOD

     Glenwood, June 3 -- Mrs. O.P. Kreps, sr., passed away Friday noon at the Klickitat General hospital in White Salmon of a heart ailment. Although Mrs. Kreps had not been well for some time her passing came as a distinct shock to the community. She was one of more active pioneer women. Her loss will be felt for a long time to come. Surviving are her husband O.P. Kreps, sr., four children; Russell Kreps of Gilmer, Mrs. Howard Patton, O.P. Kreps, jr. and Miss Jayne Kreps, Laurel, her brother, Peter Conboy, Glenwood, and five grandchildren. Services were held Monday at 10 o'clock in the Catholic church in White Salmon and interment followed in the Mt. Adams cemetery here. Gardners, of White Salmon, were in charge.

RITES HELD FOR PIONEER WOMAN

     Funeral services for Mrs. O.P. Kreps, sr., pioneer of the Glenwood community, were held Monday from the Catholic church in White Salmon. Burial followed at Mt. Adams cemetery in Glenwood.
     Mrs. Kreps died at the Klickitat General hospital in White Salmon last Friday. She had been suffering from a heart ailment for some time.
     Survivors include: her husband, O.P. Kreps, of Gilmer; two sons, Russell Kreps of Gilmer, and O.P. Kreps, jr., of Laurel; two daughters, Mrs. Howard Patton and Miss Jayne Kreps, of Laurel; one brother, Peter Conboy, of Glenwood, and five grandchildren.
