MATHEW MATTSON FUNERAL RITES HELD WEDNESDAY
Mathew Mattson, 74, one of the poneers of the Centerville
section, died at his home there Sunday. Funeral services were held for Mr.
Mattson at the Phillips chapel in Goldendale Wednesday, July 5. Interment
was in the Centerville cemetery.
Mr. Mattson came to Centerville in 1878 and farmed there
for many years. He is survived by his widow, Parmelia, three sons, Zenas,
of Centerville; Dudley, of Vancouver; and Everett; and five brothers, John,
Elmer, Frank, August and Arthur, all of Centerville.
Mr. Mattson had been residing in Stevenson for a number
of years prior to his death. He returned to Centerville recently for his
health. Mr. Mattson was born in Finland, January 4, 1865.
Rev. V. T. Smith, of the Church of Christ, conducted
the funeral services for Mr. Mattson.

OBITUARY
Matthew Mattson, oldest son of Lars and Annie Mattson
was born in Taivalkoski, Finland, near the Arctic Circle, January 4, 1965,
having been preceded one year by the father. After living in Michigan three
years the family came west arriving in Klickitat county on July 10, 1877.
On July 2, 1939 Mr. Mattson departed this life, having been a resident of
the state for 62 years, 44 years being spent in Klickitat county.
Besides his widow, Permelia Mattson, he leaves to mourn
his passing three sons, one adopted daughter, 11 grandchildren, four
great-grandchildren, five brothers, three sisters and numerous friends.
