OBITUARY
Mary Catherine Short was born in Linn County, Oregon,
Ju1y 30th, 1858. Her parents, Elder John Wesley Short and Mary Ann Short
crossed the plains from Iowa in 1853 and settled on the Albany Prairie. In
1860 they moved to Waldo Hills, 11 miles east of Salem. In October 1 1878,
she came with her parents to Klickitat county, Washington, returning in July,
1875 to Waldo Hills.
She was married September 24, 1870 to Elder Jacob Edwin
Adams and returned with her husband to Klickitat county, Washington where
they lived six years in the Pine Forest neighborhood, north of Goldendale.
In 1885 they moved to her old pioneer home on Spring Creek where she lived
until her death, January 23rd, 1931. Her husband was pastor of the Spring
Creek and Cedar Val1ey Baptist churches for twenty-three years prior to his
death twelve years ago. She was converted in a Pine Forest revival meeting
about forty-seven years ago and joined the Baptist church a few years
later.
Her youngest son passed away in November, 1909. The surviving
children are Claude, of Klickitat, Washington, Roy, of Colton, Oregon, and
Chris, of Goldendale, Washington. Two sisters, Mrs. T.T. Hinshaw, of White
Salmon, Washington and Mrs. Susan Smith, of Sutherlin, Oregon survive her.
The funeral services were held in the Spring Creek school
house Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. W.H. Muston, of the Baptist
church officiating, with interment following in the Spring Creek cemetery.
