META LAUTERBACH DIES IN PORTLAND
Miss Meta Lauterbach, 72, White Salmon, died in a Portland
hospital Tuesday afternoon, May 8. Gardner's Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 11 at Gardner's
Chapel.
Miss Lauterbach was born Feb. 20, 1880 in Rosebud, Texas
and came to White Salmon with her parents, Rudolph and Wilhemina, in 1892.
She was graduated from White Salmon High School and received
her degree in nursing from the Good Samaritan Hospital, Portland in 1917.
After 30 years of nursing at Hood River Hospital, including many years as
Superintendent of Nurses, she retired in 1947.
Continued requests for her services persuaded her to return
to their profession at Wilcox Memorial Hospital in Portland; and even after
her second retirement, as a special nurse at Skyline hospital.
Last fall Miss Lauterbach began her third "and final"
retirement by visiting old friends near Spokane. She suffered a stroke at
their home and has been an invalid since.
She is survived by one sister, Miss Louise Lauterbach
of Portland; four brothers, August, John and Bill of White Salmon, and Henry
of North Bonneville. Another sister, Olga, Mrs. Teunis Wyers, died in January
of 1953.
