MARTHA LEHMANN, AN UNDERWOOD RESIDENT ALL HER LIFE, PASSES AWAY
Funeral services were held Saturday for Martha E. Lehmann,
and Underwood resident all of her life, who died May 9 at the Hood River
Care Center. She was 73.
Born March 18, 1915 in Underwood to Emily Janisch and
Louis Thun, a former Skamania county commissioner, she went to school in
Underwood and attended one year at Washington State University at Pullman.
She married Theodore Lehmann in 1937. Mr. and Mrs. Lehmann
had their own logging operation, and owned the White Salmon Auto Supply for
many years.
The Lehmann's orchard at Underwood is famous for its
pears, and is still a family-run business. Until the last year or two, Mrs.
Lehmann was actively involved in the orchard business.
She was a cemetery commissioner in Underwood for many
years.
Martha Lehmann is survived by three sons, Ted and Robert
of Underwood, and Richard of New York City.
She is also survived by three sisters, Helen Hartness
of Portland, Lucille Teller of Seattle, and Dorothy Nixon of Federal Way;
as well as five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 14 at Gardner's
Funeral Home in White Salmon, the Rev. Thomas Payton officiating. Interment
was at Chris Zada Cemetery, Underwood.
The family suggests that donations may be made to the
Lehmann Memorial Scholarship Fund, care of the Klickitat Valley Bank in White
Salmon.

Martha E. Lehmann of Underwood died May 9 at Hood River,
Ore., at the age of 73.
She was born March 18, 1915 in Underwood, where she was
raised by her mother, Emily (Janisch) Thun, and her father, Louis Thun, who
was a Skamania County commissioner. She attended Washington State University
for one year and in 1937 married Theodore H. Lehmann. They ran a logging
operation and owned the White Salmon Auto Supply store for many years. They
also had an orchard, and she served for many years as a Skamania County Cemetery
District Commissioner.
Mrs. Lehmann was preceded in death by her husband, in
1963. She is survived by three sons, Ted of Underwood, Richard of New York,
N.Y., and Robert of Underwood; three sisters, Helen Hartness of Portland,
Ore., Lucille Teller of Seattle, and Dorothy Nixon of Federal Way, Wash.;
five grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services for Mrs. Lehmann were held Saturday, May 14,
in the chapel of Gardner Funeral Home, White Salmon. The Rev. Tom Payton
officiated. Interment followed in the Chris Zada cemetery at Underwood.
Contributions may be made to the Lehmann Memorial Scholarship
Fund, care of Klickitat Valley Bank, White Salmon.
