MARY MARKGRAF
Mary Etta Markgraf died in Appleton on May 19, 2001,
at the age of 86.
Mrs. Markgraf was born on Oct. 5, 1914, in Asotin, to
James and Frances (White) Harden. In 1931, she married Hiram Albert "Boots"
Markgraf in the Yakima Valley. All she knew was hard work; she worked at
a goat farm in Glenwood and then at a dairy in Madras, Ore.
In 1965, she earned her CNA license and went to work
in a nursing home. Mrs. Markgraf moved to Portland in 1979 and worked at
a Family Fun Center as maintenance person and custodian.
She was a very good billiards player and a great shot
with a gun. She was accomplished in arts and crafts. She was a very personable,
wonderful woman who also had a soft word.
Mrs. Markgraf is survived by her son Glen Markgraf, Lyle,
and Monty Markgraf, Selah; daughters Mary Lou Gordon, East Wenatchee, and
Carol Markgraf, Appleton; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and
two great, great-grand-children. She was preceded in death by husband "Boots"
in 1989, daughter Shirley LaVon Markgraf, brothers Jim and Foster, and sister
Osie.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2001,
at 10 a.m. at Gardner Chapel in White Salmon.
