MARY ELIZABETH MATTSON
Mary Elizabeth Mattson was born in Pulkila, Finland on
March 29, 1880 and came to Centerville, Wa. as a small child with her parents,
Mathew and Magdalen Wiidanen. She was the oldest daughter in a family of
eight children. She died at Simcoe Manor, Goldendale, Oct. 11, 1968.
On June 21, 1898 she was united in marriage to John Mattson
at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lars Mattson. They lived on a farm
near Centerville until 1944 when they moved to Goldendale to make their home.
To this union ten children were born. Her husband and
sons, Alvin, Ted and Richard preceded her in death.
Left to mourn her passing are one daughter, Hazel Taylor,
Goldendale; six sons, Edward of Goldendale; Chester, Seaview, Wa.; Otis and
Raymond, Centerville; Ivan, Portland; and Maurice, Astoria, Or.; two sisters,
Mrs. Hilda Thorp and Mrs. Anna Jelkrem, both of Portland, Or.; also 11
grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host
of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Mattson was a lifetime member of the Apostolic Lutheran
Church in Centerville.
Services were conducted Oct. 15, 1968 at the Knosher
Funeral Home in Goldendale with Ray Hilman officiating. Pallbearers were
Warren Mattson, David Mattson, Dick Boman, Duane Mattson, Neal Mattson and
Richard Wheelhouse. Interment was in the Centerville Cemetery.
