FINAL RITES HELD FOR MARY METCALF AT TROUT LAKE

     Funeral services for Mrs. James W. (Mary Elizabeth Groshong) Metcalf, 80, of Riddle were held at Myrtle Creek and also at Trout Lake Cemetery.
     Mrs. Metcalf and her first husband Joseph Groshong settled very early in the Trout Lake valley. After their youngest son married they moved to Husum where Joseph preceded her in death.
     Mrs. Metcalf was born Oct. 5, 1890 in Winchester, Ind. and died Sept. 3, 1971 at Forest Glen hospital. She moved to this area from Husum in 1952.
     She was married to James W. Metcalf on Oct. 24, 1959 at Grants Pass, Oregon. She was a former member of the Eastern Star and was raised a Quaker.
     In addition to her husband who resides in Riddle, Ore., survivors are two sons, Ira Groshong of Olympia, Wash., and Claude Groshong of Lebanon; two daughters, Grace Strandquist of Enterprise, Or. and Hazel Whitehead of Garrison, Texas; a sister Edith Pierson of Hermiston, Ore., and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

METCALF -- Mary E., 80, of Riddle, passed away Sept. 3, 1971, at a Canyonville hospital. Born Oct. 5, 1890, at Winchester, Ind. Married to James W. Metcalf, Oct. 24, 1959 in Grants Pass, Ore. Resident of this area since 1952, moving here from White Salmon, Wash. Surviving: her husband, James W., Riddle; 2 sons, Ira Groshong, Olympia, Wash., and Claude Groshong, Lebanon, Ore.; 2 daughters, Hazel Whitehead, Garrison, Tex., Grace Strandquist, Enterprise, Ore.; 1 sister, Edith Pierson, Hermiston, Ore.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held in GANZ CHAPEL at 10 a.m. Rev. Frank Wagoner of the Church of God officiated. Graveside services and interment at the Trout Lake, Wash., Cemetery, 2 p.m. Wednesday.
