MARY E. NICHOLS SERVICES TUES.

     Mary Ellen Nichols, 87, died August 27 at Skyline Hospital in White Salmon.
     Services were held at Gardner's Funeral Home, Tuesday, August 30 with burial in Goodwill Cemetery. Rev. Alfred Waln officiated.
     Casket bearers were: Claude Ackley, Al Bennett, Bill Zunke, Ray Walker, Earl Warneke and John Splawn. Honorary bearers: Aaron Vigus, Russell Kreps, and E.T. Blue.
     Mary Ellen Tompkins was born February 25, 1879, the daughter of Rebecca and John Tompkins. She was married in St. Joseph, Mo. on July 22, 1899 to Clyde Arthur Nichols who preceded her in death on April 27, 1955.
     She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Elmer (Margaret) Loose and Mrs. Grace Arnold, three sons: Cecil, William and John Nichols, of White Salmon; two sisters Agnes Quarels of Richmond, Calif.; and Sadie Yarger of St. Joseph, Mo.; one brother, Earl Tompkins of St. Joseph,16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
     She had been a resident of White Salmon since 1904. Until her health failed she had been active in the Congregational Church Guild, the Lyle Grange and the Pioneer Association.
