MARY ZIEGLER KILLED BY AUTO
Mary H. Ziegler, of this city, died Wednesday morning
as the result of injuries received the night before when she was struck by
a car driven by M. Cox of this city. Miss Ziegler and her mother were walking
on the North Bank highway, in the city limits of White Salmon. As the Cox
car neared them, a large car with glaring lights came along, blinding Cox,
so that he did not see the two walking on the highway. As soon as he could
he stopped his car and went to the aid of the two ladies, and carried Miss
Ziegler to the home of her mother. Her injuries were serious and she died
early the next morning. It is said that the large car was traveling at a
high speed and did not stop.
Mary Ziegler was born in White Salmon in 1903. She attended
the public school and graduated from the high school in 1922. She was home
for the holidays with her mother, coming from Portland where she has been
attending the Behnke-Walker business college.
She leaves her mother of this city, her father S.C. Ziegler
of Washougal; her brothers, Herbert of Portland and Earl of Vancouver; for
sisters, Helen of Chicago, Illinois; and Miss Laura Bunn of Puyallup.
The funeral was held in the Congregational church yesterday,
Rev. Tate, of Portland, preaching the funeral service. The remains were laid
to rest in the local cemetery.
The whole community mourns the sudden loss of this fine
young lady, who has grown up here and had made a host of friends.
