MARGARETTE OHNEMUS
Margarette Gladys Ohnemus, longtime Klickitat County
resident, died July 25, 1998, at Skyline Hospital in White Salmon. She was
89.
Mrs. Ohnemus was born June 27, 1909, in Woonsocket. S.D.,
to William Edmund and Murtie Cecelia (Kellum) Mills. She was named after
her paternal grandmother Margarette Ellen (Dodd) Mills.
She later lived in Yankton and Dupree, S.D., before attending
normal school in Aberdeen, S.D., to qualify as an elementary school
teacher.
She married Omer John Ohnemus May 6, 1930, in Eagle Butte,
S.D. where they lived until moving to Washington state in 1935. He preceded
her in death in 1980.
They lived at Dorr corner on Snowden Road and near Broughton
Lumber Company before moving to Strawberry Mountain near White Salmon in
1949.
Mrs. Ohnemus was a loving mother and industrious homemaker,
devoted to her family.
Survivors include her 12 children: David Ohnemus of
Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Damon Ohnemus of Renton, Wash., Douglas Ohnemus of Carson,
Daniel Ohnemus of Midland, Ore., Darlene Ohnemus of Burbank, Calif., Dixie
Doeschot, of Newark, Calif., Donald Ohnemus of Virginia, Beach, Va., Duane
Ohnemus of Cooper Landing, Alaska, Diana Young of Renton, Dolores Maxwell
of Hobart, Dixon Ohnemus of White Salmon, and Doyle Ohnemus of Cooper Landing,
Alaska. She is also survived by her brother, Ray Mills of Lyle; sister, Genevieve
Johnston; and 31 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services were held July 31 and Aug. 1. Interment was
at White Salmon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Skyline Foundation.
Gardner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
