MARGARET HANNIFAN
Margaret "Jean" Hannifan, 74, a resident of The Dalles,
died at a local hospital on Jan. 2, 1999.
She was born Nov. 2, 1924 in The Dalles, the sixth of
eight children to John A. and Lena (Hollingsworth) Miller. She grew up in
Centerville, Wash. and attended Centerville School. She graduated from Pocatello
High School with the class of 1942.
She worked at the Klickitat County Courthouse in the
auditor's office and waited tables at the Simcoe Café in Goldendale
during the war years.
She married James E. Hannifan on Jan. 6, 1946 in Fallon,
Nev. They lived in Nevada for a short time, then settled in The Dalles in
1948.
She was a homemaker, who enjoyed her children and
grandchildren, gardening, flowers, traveling, music, singing, dolls, tea
parties, pretty things, sewing, animals and much more. She was an active
member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jim, The Dalles; her children
and their spouses, Sharon and Stephen Pevera, New Fairfield, CT.; Diane and
Patrick Gallagher, Goldendale; Mike and Kathy Hannifan, Hood River; Patty
Hannifan, Van Nuys, CA.; Mark and Bonnie Hannifan, Portland; eight grandchildren,
Greg, Kelly, Heather, Kristen, Quinn, Cory, Nicole and Dustin; a sister,
Helen Reierson, The Dalles, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 7 at
11 a.m. at the Centerville Cemetery in Centerville. Memorial services will
be held at Calvary Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7, with Pastor
Jim Bull officiating. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home is in care
of arrangements.
