MARY L. JAEKEL
Mary L. Jaekel, 86, of Centerville passed away on Friday,
May 17, 1996 in Goldendale. She was born on Feb. 16, 1910 in Goldendale to
John A. and Elizabeth (Garner) Miller. Mary attended schools in Centerville,
graduating from Centerville High School. She obtained her lifetime teaching
certificate from Bellingham Normal School.
She and her high school sweetheart, Quentin J. Jaekel,
were married in June, 1935 in Centerville. The couple lived in various places
in the Northwest returning to Centerville in 1943.
Mary taught at the Centerville School for twenty years,
beginning in 1952.
She was an active member of the Centerville Church of
Christ, the Centerville Grange, Neighbors of Woodcraft, Soroptimist International
of Goldendale, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Klickitat County Cattlewoman and Republican
Woman.
She enjoyed music, singing, knitting, reading, huckleberry
picking and wildflower gathering. She enjoyed all family occasions and was
an avid Blazers and Seattle Mariner fan.
She is survived by her husband, Quentin; one son, Dennis
Jaekel and his wife Chris of Centerville; two daughters, Mrs. Bruce (Kay
Marie) Cameron of Centerville and Mrs. Larry (Shirley Ann) Ziebler of Canby,
Ore.; ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two sisters, Helen
Rierson and Jean Hannifan of The Dalles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son,
one sister, Zelma Taylor, three brothers, Henry, Reginald and Jerry Miller
and an infant great granddaughter, NaKaela.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 23 at
2 p.m. in the Centerville School gym with Pastor Ed Kelsey of the Centerville
Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in the Centerville Cemetery
under the care of Erdman Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Scott and Justin
Fitzgerald, Brent and Brad Cameron, Todd Ittershagen, Matt Jaekel, Scott
Garland, Kirk Tuttle and Andy Jaekel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Jaekel
Memorial Citizenship Award Fund for Centerville School students.
