MARGARET M. DUNCAN
Margaret Maurine Vaver Duncan, 82, passed away September
14, 1994 in Goldendale.
She was born July 2, 1912 to William and Nora Vaver in
the sawmill town of Springston, Idaho where she grew up the fourth child
in a family of ten children.
Margaret married Tolly Duncan in Springston in 1928.
For the first 12 years of their marriage, they had no children, and enjoyed
traveling all over the continental United States, and even picking cotton
in the south.
Margaret worked as a practical nurse at Central Memorial
Hospital in Toppenish during the 1950s and 1960s, both in the obstetrical
department and the emergency department. After she retired from nursing,
Margaret volunteered many hours to the Red Cross and Adventist Community
Services in the Yakima Valley. One of her gifts was the ability to instruct
others and in a kindly manner due to her genuine love of people.
Preceding her in death was her husband Tolly. Due to
Margaret's poor health, her daughter's family moved to Goldendale where they
could be close to her. She eventually was placed in the Mt. Adams Care Center
before her death.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Donna and son-in-law,
Ralph Patterson of Goldendale; four grandchildren, Teresa, Tammy, Randy and
Ronnie, and six great-grandchildren; and the many friends who remember her
fondly for her unselfish service to her church and community.
Graveside services were held September 28 at the Centerville
Cemetery with Pastor Vernon Chase of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
officiating.
Arrangements were under the care of Erdman Funeral Home.
