Mildred M. Hollenbeck
Former St. Paul resident Mildred Mae Hollenbeck died
April 10, 2006, at a care facility in Newberg. She was 97.
She was born Nov. 24, 1908, to William and Gertrude (Ansel)
Lesh in Crystal, Idaho, where she grew up and attended elementary school.
She graduated from Washington High School in Portland in 1929. On Feb. 9,
1929, she married Richard Hollenbeck in Portland. They settled in Trout Lake,
Wash., in 1930. They operated a fruit orchard and also cut and sold Christmas
trees.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1969. She then moved
to Portland and graduated from the Walla Walla School of Nursing in 1970.
She worked for Portland Adventist Hospital for nine years, then moved to
Salem, where she worked for Salem Memorial Hospital for nine years. She retired
and continued to live in Salem until 1996, when she moved to St. Paul to
live with family.
She was an avid traveler, a poet and a painter. She enjoyed
trout fishing. She made more than 100 afghans for her grandchildren and other
family members. She was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church in Newberg.
She was active in the Dorcas Society, now known as Community Services.
Survivors include: sons, Richard of Salem and William
of Portland; daughters, Elaine Connor of St. Paul and Lois Stevens of Trout
Lake, Wash,; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and many nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by: brothers, Harold, Donald,
Ernest, Gilbert, Oliver and Lawrence; and sisters, Olive Hollenbeck, Edith
Kyte, Sara Jane Quackenbush, Gertrude Rader and Mabel LaVander.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today (Saturday)
at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Newberg with Pastor Tim Mayne officiating.
Private interment is at Klickitat County Cemetery in White Salmon, Wash.

MILDRED HOLLENBECK
Mildred Mae Hollenbeck was born the daughter of William
A. and Gertrude (Ansel) Lesh on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1908, in Crystal, Idaho.
She died on Monday, April 10, 2006, in Newberg, Ore.,
at the age of 97.
She grew up and attended elementary school in Crystal
and graduated from Washington High School in Portland, Ore. On Feb. 9, 1929,
she married Richard Francis (Frank) Hollenbeck in Portland. The couple moved
several times, making their home where they could find work before settling
in Trout Lake in 1930. Later the couple purchased a fruit orchard in BZ Corner,
selling fruit both commercially and at their fruit and produce stand. In
the winter months, they cut and sold Christmas trees. Following her husband's
death in 1968, Mrs. Hollenbeck moved to Portland and started her medical
career. She attended Walla Walla School of Nursing in Portland and graduated
in 1970 as an LPN. She worked for Portland Adventist Hospital for nine years,
then moved to Salem where she worked for Salem Memorial Hospital for nine
years. She retired and continued to make her home in Salem until 1996, when
she moved to St. Paul, Ore.
Mrs. Hollenbeck was an avid traveler, poet and painter,

Surviving her are sons Richard L. Hollenbeck, Salem,
Ore., and William C. Hollenbeck, Portland; daughters Elaine M. Connor, St
Paul, Ore., and Lois J. Stevens, Trout Lake; 18 grandchildren, 37
great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death
by brothers Harold, Donald, Ernest, Gilbert, Oliver, and Lawrence, and sisters
Olive Hollenbeck, Edith Kyte, Sara Jane Quackenbush, Gertrude Rader and Mabel
LaVander.
A memorial service was held Saturday, April 15, 2006,
at 3 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Newberg, Ore., with Pastor
Tim Mayne officiating. Private interment was at Klickitat County Cemetery
District #1 in White Salmon.
